The Brass Ceiling

This summer I photographed Lt. General Karen Dyson in the halls of The Pentagon for the cover of Missouri State University's alumni magazine and learned a phrase that I had never heard before.  The Brass Ceiling.  Very clever.  She is the highest ranking female military officer in the United States Army, and perhaps all the armed forces.

We have all heard the phrase, The Glass Ceiling, an invisible barrier that prevents women from attaining higher offices in politics, the Armed Forces, and corporate America.  Women CEO's are fairly common these days, and with Hillary Clinton in contention to make history as the first female President,    the military is changing with the times.

The best boss that I ever had that was not my wife, was a woman, so I personally feel that this is way overdue.
